Software for Palomar R-X Noise Bridge
The Palomar Engineers R-X noise Bridge is a very handy piece of equipment when working with antennas, small inductors and capacitors. However, the resistance scale is rather crude and warrants more precise calibration with a short and several more values of resistance especially less than 25 ohms. You may also have trouble drawing little white marks on the black paint. The next problems that takes time is converting the capacitance values to reactance. Though the capacitance scale is linear, the conversion to correct for frequency and reactance is a reciprocal relationship. After about an hour of using the hand calculator to go through a page of measurements, I decided that a computer program would be a great help. So here is a little program that will save you lots of time. It is called rx_100.exe and will run under DOS, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. It also converts rectangular impedance to polar form so that you have the magnitude and angle available as well. So if you want to save some time, download rx_100. The only remaining thing needed is a bell to remind you to turn off the bridge after finishing the measurements. I've managed to use a five pack of batteries in just a week. Maybe it should beep while it is running.
